چکیده

Is it possible to show space relations to blind people ? Techniques and experiments described in this article explore several ways of accessing spatial information by blind people using one point forcefeedback device. The study focuses on two techniques supporting an orientation in buildings. Preliminary results show that a wider spectrum of different techniques suitable for blind people is needed. Exploration of Interface Usability in a Haptic 3d Virtual Labyrinth for Visually Impaired Users

In this paper, an experimental study is presented on navigation in a 3D virtual environment by blind and visually impaired people with haptic and audio interaction. A simple 3D labyrinth is developed with haptic and audio interfaces to allow blind and visually impaired persons to access a three-dimensional Virtual Reality scene through senses of touch and hearing. The user must move from inside...

Virtual Environments for People Who Are Visually Impaired Integrated into an Orientation and Mobility Program

Structured abstract: Introduction: The BlindAid, a virtual system developed for orientation and mobility (O&M) training of people who are blind or have low vision, allows interaction with different virtual components (structures and objects) via auditory and haptic feedback. This research examined if and how the BlindAid that was integrated within an O&M training program could be of help when t...

Exploration in 3D Virtual Worlds with Haptic-Audio Support for Nonvisual Spatial Recognition

Mobility indoors or outdoors is a problem for visually impaired people because of lacking the visual channel. Appropriate learning tools about spatial information could be used as a preparation for navigation before going to the real place. Current accessibility technologies, such as screen readers, do not well convey spatial layout or structure. In this paper, an study on accessing non-visual ...

Route Guidance for Visually Impaired Based on Haptic Technology and Their Spatial Cognition

Haptic (vibration) information expression is an effective humancomputer interaction mode and information transfer method. It makes up shortcomings of sound under certain conditions and be an important channel of information transfer for route guidance field. As a special kind of walkers, the visually impaired pedestrians have a specific type of cognition or perception of route guidance environm...

Design and Evaluation of 3D Multimodal Virtual Environments for Visually Impaired People

Spatial information presented visually is not easily accessible to visually impaired users. Current technologies, such as screen readers, cannot intuitively convey spatial layout or structure. This lack of overview is an obstacle for a visually impaired user, both when using the computer individually and when collaborating with other users. With the development of haptic and audio technologies,...
